If you’ve ever driven Highway 115 near Pontypool and longed to stop and play Black Diamond Golf Club, wait no longer. This course has quickly matured to become one of the Kawarthas’ true gems. You’ll experience two distinctly different nines, both of which are in mint condition from tee to green. The front nine rolls through fescue covered mounds with some scenic vistas of the lush valley. The back nine drops down into a ravine with some narrow tree-lined fairways that will test your accuracy. Four sets of tees ranging from 5,431 yards to a daunting 7,042 yards allow every caliber of golfer to attain maximum enjoyment while challenging your ability to get the ball in the hole. With a beautiful full service clubhouse backing the first tee, you can feel free to hit it high and let it fly on this three shot par 5. Arriving at the green you’ll find it to be large and fast but rolling very true. That’s all the warm up you’ll get as the second hole handicaps as the most difficult on the course. You’ll quickly learn that well placed tee shots will go a long ways to taking some skins from those being more aggressive. The par 3 fourth hole shares a very unique large green with number seven making for some huge putts if you’ve over clubbed. The eighth hole is a dog leg left that is a true risk and reward hole. A welcoming green gives a good shot at birdie before heading back up the hill for the long par 5 ninth. Order your midway snacks and beverages from the tee so you can begin your adventure on the back nine. Standing on the tenth tee enjoy mountain like hang time hitting down into the valley on this challenging par 5 that requires good club selection coming back up to the elevated green. The eleventh is Black Diamond’s signature hole hitting from another scenic rise in the valley over water to a fairway that runs perpendicular to the tee. Smooth rolling fairways can both help or hinder depending on your accuracy as you wind through this beautiful natural valley. The two beautiful par threes on the back nine will definitely get the heart rate up if you’re gunning for the flag and club choice is key as you deal with many elevation changes. A beautiful nineteenth hole awaits as you emerge from the valley to reward yourself for your efforts.
